This is an excellent warming decongestant remedy for accute bronchitis, catarrhal coughs, colds and 'flu. If taken at the very first sign of a cold or flu symptoms(sore throat shivering and sneezing)it had been known to stop the virus in its tracks!!
1pt (500ml) still spring water
1 teaspoon whole cloves
Cinnamon stick, broken
I level teaspoon ground ginger
Honey
Juice of one freshly squeezed lemon
1. Pour the water into a stainless steel or enamel saucepan, add the cloves and broken cinnamon stick and bring to boiling point.
2. Turn down the heat and simmer in a covered pan for 5 minutes.
3. Turn off the heat, add the ground ginger and leave on the stove to infuse for about 30 mins.
Reheat before use to just below simmering point. Pour some of the decoction through a tea stainer into a cup, then add one dessertspoon of lemon juice and as much honey as you like to sweeten.
Drink a cup two or three times a day, gently reheating the spicy decoction (but not the lemon juice and honey) each time before use.
Enjoy!!
